This book was essential for me to write for children. I wanted to express how important it is that they are not alone and that everyone must join the fight against injustices that black and brown people face every day. At a very young age, I recognized that I was being treated differently- especially at school. I felt like an outcast most times. This book portrays favorable black role models and people of all cultures standing up to do what is right in America. Children need to know we have their back!
